Can you say trap game? That definitely could be what top-ranked LSU Tigers is facing tonight against a lousy Ole Miss Rebels team. The Tigers should certainly roll, but it’s also possible that LSU is looking ahead to next week’s huge game with No. 6 Arkansas that could be for a spot in the SEC Championship Game. LSU opened as a 29.5-point favorite this week on Bodog Sportsbook’s NCAA College Football Odds.

Ole Miss (2-8, 0-6) is simply terrible this year, and coach Houston Nutt already has been told he won’t be back next year so the Rebels are just trying to get this season over with. They have one of the worst offenses in the nation and have lost five straight and seven of eight. In five of those games, Mississippi has been held to 13 points or less. Last week was rock bottom, a 27-7 home loss to mid-major Louisiana Tech. This will be Nutt’s final home game. The Rebels have lost 12 straight SEC games.
To make matters worse, starting quarterback Randall Mackey and leading rusher Jeff Scott have been suspended for this game for violating team rules. Mackey has started the past six games and thrown for 1,112 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for 180 yards this season. Backup Zack Stoudt, who will start, has thrown for 542 yards, two touchdowns and seven interceptions. Scott has rushed for 529 yards and six touchdowns this season and is the Rebels’ fourth-leading receiver with 15 receptions for 99 yards.
LSU (10-0, 6-0) is 10-0 for the first time since 1958. Other than that epic defensive struggle vs. Alabama two weeks ago, the Tigers have beaten every team by at least 13 points. Last week the Tigers’ heads weren’t much in it, sleepwalking past Western Kentucky 42-9 in a game in which LSU was favored by nearly six touchdowns.
One week after playing most of LSU's 9-6 overtime victory at Alabama, QB Jordan Jefferson got the start against the Hilltoppers, hitting 8 of 14 passes for 168 yards, including a 59-yard scoring strike to Rueben Randle. Look for Jefferson to be the starter from here on out although Jarrett Lee still will get snaps. It’s hard to see Ole Miss scoring much against LSU’s defense, which is in the Top 5 nationally in rushing, scoring pass efficiency and total defense.
LSU has won 18 consecutive night games and is 50-4 in night games under Les Miles. LSU snapped Ole Miss’ two-game winning streak in the series with a 43-36 victory last year in Tiger Stadium. Ole Miss won the last meeting between the teams in Oxford, 25-23, in 2009. Rebels are 1-6 ATS in past seven SEC games. The road team is 6-1 ATS in the past seven meetings.
